I wish there were more of these images; I find them fascinating. A thought popped into my head while viewing them, that is the underlying prejudice society has instilled into me – the myth of the idyllic past destroyed by modern society. While photography and the industrial revolution appeared about the same time, we forget just how destructive our ancestors were. Think Haiti and its deforestation that is survival based and not commercially based. The Romans destroyed entire hills mining and silted up many an estuaries. Even knowing this, I am astonished how much better things look now and not because it is in colour.
